Description

The RYA Day Skipper Theory course is a comprehensive introduction to cruising for inexperienced or rusty skippers. The RYA Day Skipper theory courses are often taken by yachtsmen and crews working on board yachts and motor cruisers as well as leisure sailors looking to develop their skills for racing or day sailing. This course is delivered by Navathome or Sailing Course Online, RYA Recognised Training Centres specialising in online training and equips you with enough knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day, it also includes a basic knowledge of lights to introduce you to night cruising. A comprehensive course pack is included, as well as two exercise charts, course handbook, exercises workbook, full size course plotter, brass dividers, and the RYA Training Almanac.

Course content: The basics of seamanship, Essentials of coastal navigation, pilotage, chartwork, position fixing, plotting a course to steer, electronic navigation, weather forecasting and meteorology, tides and tidal streams, collision regulations, lights and shapes, cruising boat construction, parts and equipment, emergency and safety procedures, Life-jackets, harnesses and when to use them

Ability after the course: RYA Day Skipper Theory course gives the candidates the ability to navigate in coastal waters in yachts during the day and night

Course expiry: There is an initial access period of 6 months which is plenty of time to complete any of the courses offered. Your access can be extended at any time for up to two years after your access runs out for an admin fee of £45
