This Short Range Radio Certificate (VHF) is the minimum qualification required by law for the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) radios and equipment. The course covers the basics of radio operation, channels, frequencies to use, and emergency and distress procedures including Search and Rescue (SART) and Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB). Once you have completed RYA SRC training you can then do the exam, the exam fee of £70 is payable directly to the RYA.
Assumed Knowledge: None, Beginner.
Course content: The course covers the basics of radio operation, channels, frequencies to use, and emergency and distress procedures including Search and Rescue (SART) and Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB). The exam will also include a short written test.
Handbooks and Pre-Course Reading: You will receive your RYA VHF book in the post to the address mentioned at checkout, please allow sufficient time for the book to arrive. If you wish to start immediately, posting the RYA VHF book will not be an option. RYA VHF books can always be collected from Bristol Maritime Academy.
Ability after the course: RYA VHF/SRC course gives the candidates the ability to use the radio correctly.
