Course Location

Bristol Harbour

The course is based in Bristol's Floating Harbour, a working waterway in the heart of the city and a fitting environment for anyone training to use a powerboat professionally.

The harbour itself provides excellent conditions for building core boat handling skills, with slow-speed manoeuvring practice amongst the varied craft, pontoons and landings you'd expect to encounter on a real working waterway. Unlike a leisure marina, the Floating Harbour exposes you to the kinds of vessels and activity you're more likely to meet on the job, from working boats and barges to ferries and survey craft.

From the harbour, the course takes you up through the city and out onto the River Avon via Netham Lock, giving you practical experience of locking through a working lock, a skill directly relevant to those operating in river and canal environments. Once on the Avon, you'll practise driving in flowing water with tidal influence and river traffic adding genuine complexity to the navigation.

The Bristol Harbour location is also practically convenient, easily accessible from the city centre and well-connected by road for teams travelling from across the region.
