RLSS UK Water Safety Training Specifications
RLSS UK Module 3 - Water & Flood Rescue Technician
Cost: £700 (Including VAT)
Duration: 4 days
Who is it for? Trains responders to recognise their operational limits and use of appropriate water rescue equipment when working on or in moving water.
It is also designed for specialist search and rescue personnel who require advanced water rescue skills.
Minimum Age: Age 18 +
Valid For: The DEFRA Module 3: Water & Flood Rescue Technician certificate is valid for three years from the qualification date. If candidates maintain an adequate level of Continued Professional Development (CPD) throughout the validity of the certificate, which comprises of a minimum of 12-hours of CPD per year, with at least two sessions per year, with a maximum gap of nine months between training sessions. At least 6-hours of the 12-hours required must be in the water.

Exam Type / Duration: Ongoing assessment throughout the course, comprising verbal questioning and practical demonstrations.
Assumed Pre-Course Ability: None, Beginner.
Course Information: Upon completion of the course, participants develop the ability to read water conditions, candidates will spend time swimming, practising self-rescue skills, and carrying out both inwater and onwater rescues as part of a coordinated rescue team.
Water Safety Training - DEFRA Aligned Module 3 also covers boat and pathway handling, basic line-rescue techniques, and the assessment of hazards associated with still water and unstable ground, such as mud and ice.

Cost: £850 per person (Includes VAT)
Duration: 5 days
Exam Type / Duration: Oral questioning, dynamic risk assessment, water-based throw bag demonstration, types of swim and wading.
Prerequisites to Become an RLSS UK Water Safety Training - DEFRA Aligned Trainer Assessor (TA):
There are two levels of Water Safety Training - DEFRA Aligned Trainer Assessors.
To deliver these awards:
- DEFRA Module 1: Water & Flood Awareness
- DEFRA Module 1 with Annex G: Water and Flood Non-rescue Support Operations
- DEFRA Module 2: Water & Flood First Responder
- Coastal Waterways Module 1: Coastal Water Awareness
You are required to:
1) Hold a valid RLSS UK TA Core (3 days)
2) RLSS UK Water Safety Training TA DEFRA 2 Specialism (2 days) (or previous NWSMP DEFRA TA Specialism)
3) Hold and maintain either DEFRA Module 2: Water and Flood First Responder or DEFRA Module 3: Water and Flood Rescue Technician (from any training provider)
4) Hold and maintain a current First Aid qualification (or equivalent)
5) Hold a current RLSS UK 'Licence' to Operate' Membership.
To deliver this award:
Must have already completed:
1) Hold a valid RLSS UK TA Core (3 days)
2) RLSS UK Water Safety Training TA DEFRA 2 Specialism (2-days) *not probationary status
Must maintain:
3) Hold and maintain DEFRA Module 3: Water and Flood Rescue Technician qualification
