  • Requirement: Water Awareness (Module 1)
  • Minimum Duration: 1 or 2 Day
  • Minimum Age: 16 years


  • All individuals and company personnel who work in or around water.
  • Any First Responders, Emergency Services, Police, Park Wardens.
  • Environment Engineers & Watercourse Maintenance Staff including; Bridge, Highways, Construction and Rail Staff.
  • National Vehicle Breakdown Crew, TV / Film units, Local Authority Personnel, Water Bailiffs and other Government Agencies.
  • Emergency Planners, Project Managers, Health & Safety Officers, Site Managers.
  • Event Organisers and all staff responsible for personnel at risk, in both the leisure and in the commercial world.
  • All members of staff or individuals at risk from accidental immersion or working in cold water.


  • Final course programme will be designed to meet customer’s specific needs. However, all our courses follow the DEFRA guidelines which include:
  • Flooding and associated hazards.
  • Application of the role of the First Responder within the Incident Management Structure.
  • Awareness of hydrology and associated hazards.
  • Correct use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Equipment, lone working, accidental cold water immersion, basic casualty care, pollution, infection, hygiene and de-contamination.
  • Techniques for movement in shallow water and swift water.
  • Health issues, casualty and team care.
  • Implementation of task briefing and documentation.
  • Metrological observations.

On completion of the course participants will be able to;

Implement on site safety risk assessments, have a working knowledge of appropriate use of personal protective equipment, set up an emergency action plan and co-ordinate emergency procedures.
