This 3 day RYA Advanced Powerboat course develops skippering techniques for coastal and offshore passages by day and night. The course includes a night passage planned and executed by the candidates after some training from our Advanced Powerboat Instructors. This will take place in the Bristol Channel offering a challenging and educational training area.
The RYA Advanced Powerboat course is for all boaters, whether professional or leisure users, wanting to undertake more adventurous powerboating activities. Candidates will be trained in more advanced powerboat skills for coastal use and develop their knowledge of navigation when they can only rely on their instruments and the environment around them at night.
RYA Advanced Powerboat courses are for those who already have good boat handling skills and knowledge and want to be able to feel more secure in their knowledge of boat handling and navigation at night in coastal waters. It is strongly recommended that all students taking the Advanced course to hold a VHF/SRC operators certificate and a valid first-aid certificate.
Candidates should be competent to the standard of the Intermediate Powerboat Certificate with a thorough knowledge of the navigation and chartwork to the level of Coastal Skipper/RYA Yachtmaster Shorebased certificate.
Coastal boat handling and navigation by night, advanced passage planning, skipper responsibilities, safety equipment needs, emergency situation planning and theory subjects including rules of the road, advanced pilotage, and use of engines.
Ability after the course:
Students will be able to execute trips whether day or night and find the locations needed through navigation and equipment use.
