September 29, 2020The RYA Coastal Skipper/ Yachtmaster theory is advanced training for more experienced skippers building on the Day Skipper course, delivered by Navathome or Sailing Course Online, RYA Recognised Training Centres specialising in online training. The course will take your theory knowledge to the standard required for RYA Coastal Skipper /Yachtmaster Offshore practical exams, concentrating on advanced navigation and meteorology skills. This course equips you to navigate safely on coastal and offshore passages. It allows time for revision of the basics and then moves on to advanced navigation techniques. A comprehensive course pack is included, as well as two exercise charts, course handbook, the exercises, a full-size course plotter, brass dividers, and the RYA Training Almanac.
Assumed Knowledge: RYA Day Skipper Theory
Course content: Position fixing, Course shaping and plotting, advanced tidal knowledge, use of almanacs, admiralty & pilotage publications, electronic navigation, plotting weather systems, weather predictions and observations, using a barometer, collision regulations, customs regulations for cruising abroad, taking and interpreting weather forecasts
Ability after the course: Able to safely plan day and night passages including offshore and inshore navigation
Course expiry: There is an initial access period of 6 months which is plenty of time to complete any of the courses offered. Your access can be extended at any time for up to two years after your access runs out for an admin fee of £45
