DEFRA Inland First Responder – STAFFORDSHIRE 07 – 08.10.25

Course Information: This course takes place in Rocester, Staffordshire.  

This is the RLSS DEFRA NWSMP Inland First Responder Course and this course meets the DEFRA 2 Water and Flood First Responder requirements.

Upon completion course, participants will be able to implement on-site safety risk assessments, have a working knowledge of the appropriate use of personal protective equipment, set up an emergency action plan, and coordinate emergency procedures. This will include experience in how to move, rescue, and control yourself and your team in moving water, the use of PPE and rescue equipment, including throw bags, reach and rescue poles, and life jacket training in the water.

Course Structure: The first day consists of an online module done over teams with the second day onsite.

Course Assessment: Completion of Inland Waterways Workbook and Practical Assessment which includes throw bag demonstrations, types of swim, and wading. As part of the assessment, candidates must be able to swim 50m in an open water environment.
